Release Time:2025-03-14

On February 26, the second session of the "HuaiBo Lecture"series was held at Huairou Laboratory. The event featured Professor Duan Wenhui from Tsinghua University, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences as the keynote speaker.

Professor Duan presented an engaging lecture titled Computational Materials Design Driven by AI. His talk provided an accessible yet profound overview of the latest advancements in AI applications for materials computation and design, showcasing the immense potential of AI in accelerating materials research.

He emphasized how AI technologies can significantly enhance both the efficiency and accuracy of materials research, opening new pathways for discovering and applying new materials. Professor Duan introduced his team’s work on optimizing first-principles calculations using AI, including the development of the "DeepH" model framework for AI-driven materials discovery. He outlined future plans to further train the DeepH model and related large-scale materials models, improve structure-property relationship predictions, and build comprehensive materials databases to support China’s Materials Genome Initiative.

The lecture ignited strong research interest among attendees, prompting deep reflections on identifying innovation opportunities and leveraging AI for more efficient scientific workflows. During the interactive Q&A session, participants posed enthusiastic questions, and Professor Duan engaged in dynamic discussions, providing in-depth insights and perspectives.

Nearly 200 participants—including researchers, doctoral advisors, postdoctoral fellows, and Ph.D. candidates—attended the hybrid event.
