Huairou Laboratory Hosts International Academic Exchange on PV Research with Germany’s Forschungszentrum Jülich
Release Time:2025-09-16
On September 3, 2025, Huairou Laboratory hosted an academic exchange with Professor Christoph J. Brabec, Director of the Institute of Renewable Energy at Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ).
Professor Brabec delivered a presentation titled “Photovoltaic Research Activities at the Institute of Materials and Devices for Photovoltaics,” in which he outlined the current status of photovoltaic technology development, its application prospects, and the challenges it faces. He elaborated on FZJ’s research strategy, which balances knowledge-based and data-driven approaches to accelerate the development of emerging photovoltaic technologies. The presentation covered FZJ’s silicon heterojunction baseline for the development of silicon single-junction and multi-junction solar cells, the world’s first autonomous materials and devices acceleration platform for emerging photovoltaics (AMADAP), production processes for large-scale development of single-junction and tandem-junction photovoltaic modules, and the pilot production line for future solar factories. Additionally, Professor Brabec discussed comprehensive research facilities that integrate and scale renewable energy solutions from generation to conversion and storage. Finally, he presented FZJ’s medium- and long-term plans and goals for photovoltaic technology development through 2030 and 2040.
Subsequently, Professor Zou Dechun, leader of the research team at Huairou Laboratory, introduced the background of China’s photovoltaic technology development, the team’s basic structure, its research progress, and international cooperation activities. The participants then engaged in an in-depth discussion on the latest developments in areas such as renewable energy utilization, photovoltaic materials preparation, large-scale manufacturing, and data-driven R&D acceleration.
This exchange served as a valuable platform for broadening international perspectives. The event was conducted in a lively and engaging atmosphere, with all attendees actively participating in fruitful discussions.
