Huairou Laboratory Holds Working Meeting with China Energy Investment Corporation Co., Ltd.

On November 21, Yu Yingjie, Member of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee, Secretary of the Education Working Committee of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee, and Party Secretary of Huairou Laboratory, together with Tang Guangfu, Director of Huairou Laboratory and member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, received a delegation led by Zou Lei, Chairman of China Energy Investment Corporation Co., Ltd. (CHN Energy). The meeting focused on deepening co-construction cooperation and jointly advancing China’s ambition to become a global leader in the energy sector. Also attending the talks were Fang Li, Deputy Secretary of Huairou Laboratory; Wang Li, Deputy Secretary and Discipline Inspection Commission Secretary; and Yan Guochun, Vice General Manager of CHN Energy.

l Zou Lei highly commended Huairou Laboratory’s achievements since its establishment. He noted that the laboratory has effectively implemented the new nationwide mobilization system, integrated high-quality resources, and successfully brought together the full innovation chain—from R&D and manufacturing to application—in the energy and power sector. As a key enterprise in China’s energy industry, CHN Energy is committed to fulfilling its dual role as “the ballast of energy supply and the vanguard of the energy transition.” Zou emphasized that CHN Energy shares the same strategic vision as Huairou Laboratory and expressed the hope to collaborate in areas including: high quality organization and implementation of national major S&T programs; advancing substantive operations of the Clean Energy Research Center; accelerating joint breakthroughs in key technologies—such as next-generation coal power and future energy systems—and driving the transformation of major research outcomes to support national energy security and the green transition.

Yu Yingjie thanked CHN Energy for it’s longstanding and robust support for Huairou Laboratory’s development and outlined Beijing Municipality’s measures to provide institutional and logistical backing for the laboratory. He highlighted that over the past four years, Huairou Laboratory has actively explored practical applications of the new nationwide mobilization system in the energy sector, forging close partnerships with central state-owned energy enterprises to tackle critical challenges. As a result, the laboratory is beginning to fulfill its intended role as the “central platform and lead integrator” for energy technology innovation. Yu called for further refinement of the co-construction model between CHN Energy and Huairou Laboratory, focusing efforts on overcoming bottlenecks in core energy technologies, deepening the integration of innovation and industrial chains, and jointly shaping the energy sector’s development blueprint for the upcoming “15th Five-Year Plan” period—thereby contributing to building an energy powerhouse and achieving high-level self-reliance in science and technology.

Tang Guangfu provided an overview of Huairou Laboratory’s overall progress. He noted that CHN Energy was among the first central state-owned energy enterprises to establish a strategic partnership with the laboratory, and that their jointly led national major coal-related science and technology program has already achieved initial milestones. Tang expressed appreciation for CHN Energy’s strong support in areas such as demonstration project construction and participation in national major science and technology initiatives. He proposed that, based on existing collaboration, both sides further improve the co-construction mechanism of the Clean Energy Research Center and jointly develop integrated platforms for scientific research and talent cultivation—working together to build a national strategic force in energy science and technology.

Also present at the meeting were Gu Dazhao, member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Dong Anyou, Assistant Director of Huairou Laboratory; Pang Hui, Assistant Director and Head of the Department of Science and Technology Innovation; representatives from the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, Administrative Commission of Zhongguancun Science Park, and relevant departments and units of both Huairou Laboratory and CHN Energy.
