On July 30, the inaugural meeting and the first plenary session of the National Energy Laboratory System Innovation Alliance were held at Huairou Laboratory, marking the official establishment of the Alliance. Representatives from 18 member institutions, including national laboratories, state key laboratories, and provincial- and ministerial-level laboratories in the energy sector, attended the meeting.
The Alliance, led by Huairou Laboratory and supported by state key laboratories nationwide, represents a useful exploration in building a laboratory system for the energy sector. Serving as a collaborative platform, the Alliance brings together the country’s leading research forces in energy, fostering a strong synergy in scientific research and technological innovation. This initiative aims to accelerate the formation of a strategic scientific and technological force in the energy sector, contributing to the nation’s goal of achieving high-level self-reliance and self-strengthening in science and technology under the new nationwide system for mobilizing resources.
At the meeting, participants reviewed and approved the Rules of the National Laboratory System Innovation Alliance in the Energy Sector and elected the members of the Alliance’s executive body. The first group of member institutions includes Huairou Laboratory, 15 state key laboratories, and 2 provincial- and ministerial-level laboratories. The Director of Huairou Laboratory serves as the convener of the Alliance. An executive committee composed of 9 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering has been formed, with a secretariat set up under Huairou Laboratory.
During the meeting, member representatives held in-depth discussions on how to effectively carry out the Alliance’s work and accelerate the establishment of a national laboratory system with Chinese characteristics. Moving forward, the Alliance will be guided by national strategies, using high-level international academic forums as key platforms to facilitate scientific and academic exchanges. It will strengthen cooperation in areas such as joint efforts on major scientific and technological tasks, open sharing of facilities and platforms, translation of research achievements into practical applications, and the exchange and mobility of talent.
Director of Huairou Laboratory emphasized that the establishment of the Alliance marks a positive step in improving the national laboratory system. He expressed the hope that all member institutions will continue to offer valuable suggestions for the Alliance’s development, continue to advance and strengthen the Alliance’s work, bring together more outstanding scientific research forces, explore new models of collaborative innovation and joint research between national laboratories and state key laboratories, and enhance organized scientific research in the energy sector to better serve the country’s strategic needs and contribute to achieving high-level self-reliance and self-strengthening in science and technology.
