Huairou Laboratory Holds Talks with State Grid Corporation of China

On August 28th, Yu Yingjie, member of the Standing Committee of Beijing Municipal Party Committee and Secretary of the Party Committee of Huairou Laboratory, and Tang Guangfu, Director of Huairou Laboratory and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, visited the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC). They held talks with Zhang Zhigang, Chairman of SGCC, and Pang Xiaogang, General Manager of SGCC. The discussions focused on the implementation of the new type of system for major national initiatives, deepening the collaborative construction model, and jointly advancing the high-quality development of energy and power. Chen Guoping, Vice General Manager of SGCC; Fang Li, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Huairou Laboratory; Dong Anyou, Assistant to the Director; and Pang Hui, Assistant to the Director, also participated in the discussions.
Zhang Zhigang welcomed the delegation from Huairou Laboratory and expressed his appreciation for the visit. He emphasized that the State Grid Corporation of China adheres to the requirements for building an energy and power technology innovation system under the new type of system for major national initiatives, and actively supports the development of laboratories. The company regards technological innovation as a top priority and plans to use its national key laboratories as a starting point to fully integrate into the new type of system for major national initiatives. SGCC is committed to deepening fundamental research, fulfilling the main responsibility of state-owned backbone enterprises in technological innovation, focusing on key areas, and actively participating in major national projects and infrastructure construction. Furthermore, SGCC aims to reform its technological systems and mechanisms, fully unleashing the potential for innovation and creativity. Zhang hopes to deepen cooperation with Huairou Laboratory in joint scientific research, the transformation and application of results, and talent cooperation and training. He also expressed interest in exploring more practical and efficient collaborative mechanisms to jointly promote innovation and development in the energy and power sectors.
Yu Yingjie expressed his gratitude to the State Grid Corporation of China for its long-standing support to both Beijing and Huairou Laboratory. He pointed out that since its establishment, Huairou Laboratory has played a leading and central role in technology innovation, serving as the “main pillar” and the “overall platform and chain leader.” The Laboratory has actively explored deep collaborative innovation models with energy central state-owned enterprises, including SGCC. The joint construction of the Beijing Institute of Smart Energy by both parties is a vivid example of the new type of system for major national initiatives in the energy sector. With the strong support of energy central state-owned enterprises, Huairou Laboratory has strategically aligned the innovation chain with the industrial chain, driving innovation through industry. The progress of scientific research has exceeded expectations, with several stage achievements now being demonstrated and implemented. The cooperation model focused on mission-oriented goals and shared topics has already shown effective results. Yu further expressed his hope that Huairou Laboratory and SGCC will further solidify and optimize the collaborative mechanism for joint construction, strengthen the integration of innovation resources, accelerate the production of landmark achievements that are of national concern, recognized by the industry, and focused on by society. These efforts will provide high-quality technological supply to support the development of new quality productive forces and contribute to ensuring national energy security and achieving the dual carbon goals.
Tang Guangfu introduced the progress of Huairou Laboratory’s development. He stated that the laboratory is focusing on the country’s strategic needs, implementing the new type of system for major national initiatives, and gathering national innovation resources to carry out organized scientific research. The laboratory aims to accelerate the iteration of research technologies and the demonstration of results while driving the construction of a new energy system. Tang emphasized the importance of leveraging the laboratory’s system and mechanism advantages as well as the role of central state-owned enterprises as main players of innovation. He stressed the need for practical cooperation in strengthening the construction of co-built institutions, jointly planning major technological tasks for the 15th Five-Year Plan, demonstrating technological achievements, and facilitating the dual employment and exchange training of scientific researchers. The goal is to jointly build national strategic technological forces in the energy sector.
Leaders from relevant departments and units of the State Grid Corporation of China, officials from the Beijing Municipal Government, and heads of relevant departments and the Smart Energy Center (Institute) of Huairou Laboratory also participated in the talks.
