Professor Xu Ruina from Huairou Laboratory Wins the 2025 XPLORER PRIZE

On August 25th, the New Cornerstone Science Foundation officially announced the list of winners for the 2025 XPLORER PRIZE with 50 young scientists making the cut. Among them is Professor Xu Ruina from Huairou Laboratory, who was selected in the field of energy and environmental science.

Professor Xu, the head of the Department of Energy and Power Engineering at Tsinghua University, joined Huairou Laboratory as a dual appointment in June 2022. She has long been engaged in research on heat and mass transfer theories, methods, and key technologies under complex conditions in the low-carbon energy and power sector. She has been awarded the 17th China Youth Science and Technology Award and, as the third contributor, has received both the Second Class State Natural Science Award and the Second Class State Technological Invention Award.


The EXPLORER PRIZE is a scientists-led public welfare award funded by the New Cornerstone Science Foundation. It is one of the highest-funded talent support programs for young scientific minds in China. The award targets the fields of basic science and frontier technology and supports outstanding young scientists in their “exploration phase” who work full-time in the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, and Macau (men aged 45 or below, women aged 48 or below).
