Director Tang Guangfu Meets with Sir Jim McDonald, Emeritus Principal of the University of Strathclyde

On the morning of November 9, Tang Guangfu, Director of Huairou Laboratory and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, met with Sir Jim McDonald, Emeritus Principal of the University of Strathclyde and former President of the Royal Academy of Engineering, for a discussion on potential collaboration. Also attending the meeting were Campbell Booth, Associate Principal & Executive Dean of Faculty of Engineering of the University of Strathclyde; Shu Yinbiao, Head of Expert Group and Head of Research Team of Huairou Laboratory and Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE); and Huairou Laboratory executives Fang Li and Pang Hui.
Director Tang extended a warm welcome to Sir Jim McDonald and his delegation. He emphasized that Huairou Laboratory, as a strategic national force in China’s energy sector, consistently upholds an open and collaborative approach. Noting the University of Strathclyde’s distinguished reputation in power electronics, electric drives, and mechanical engineering, he expressed hope that this visit would create new opportunities for cooperation between the two institutions.
Sir Jim McDonald thanked Huairou Laboratory for its hospitality. He remarked that the research focus of Huairou Laboratory aligns closely with the University of Strathclyde’s strengths, offering significant potential for collaboration in areas such as joint research platforms and talent development. He expressed confidence that this exchange would mark the beginning of a new chapter in their partnership.
The meeting was also attended by representatives from the China Association for International Exchange of Personnel (CAIEP), relevant departments of Huairou Laboratory, the Beijing Institute of Smart Energy, the Next Generation Power System Research Center, alumni of the University of Strathclyde, and members of related research teams.
